Account book, 1781-1828, kept by shoemaker John E. Masten of Kingston, New York, recording customer accounts for making and repairing boots and shoes, with occasional entries recording sales of livestock, grain, and household goods, as well as labor evidently provided by slaves from the Masten household. Marsten's individual accounts, many of them quite extensive, include entries for Joshua Dubois, John Beekman, Joseph Chipp, Cornelius Beekman, Nicholas Vanderlyn, Abraham B. Bancker, Christopher Tappan, Abraham Elmendorf, Lucas Elmendorf, and many others. Later entries, 1811-1828, in a different hand, record accounts for farm produce, hauling stones, purchases of hides, etc. Includes index.
